The North-Western Railway (NWR) has started work to revamp Jodhpur station on the lines of Jaipur station. The project will be completed in three years at a cost of Rs 474 crore.
The NWR is planning to develop it as a city centre and give better facilities like lifts, lounges, executive lounges, separate entry and exit gates to passengers. Along with the new building, concourse and foot overbridge will be connected with a sky walk.
“The redevelopment work of Jodhpur station is progressing at a rapid pace under the efficient guidance of general manager Vijay Sharma. The letter of agreement for the work has been issued by the Rail Land Development Authority to a construction company of Bengaluru. Construction of a multistorey building has been proposed at Jodhpur station. The new station will have a multi-level car parking, separate gates for arrival/departure, security checking area, 72-meter-wide concourse area including 32 new lifts and 16 new escalators in the main station building. The foot overbridges at the station will be connected to the sky walk,” said Captain Shashi Kiran, chief public relations officer NWR.
The station will also have an unreserved waiting room, executive waiting room, retail stalls, toilets, baby food room as well as all kinds of modern passenger facilities. The entire redevelopment of Jodhpur station will reflect the rich heritage of Suryanagari through various architectural elements and features such as yellow stone lattice work, arches, domes, chhatri, among others.
The entire project will have green building facilities with features for reduction of energy consumption during construction as well as operation and maintenance, combined with renewable energy resources like waste processing, etc. The station redevelopment work will be completed in four to five phases.
