Jammu and Kashmir has successfully completed over 300,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin(PMAY-G), achieving 97 percent of its target, as reported by officials on Sunday. The Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, has instructed officials to expedite the construction of the remaining 11,340 houses under the scheme.
During a meeting aimed at assessing the progress of PMAY-G in the Union Territory, he noted that the current phase of the scheme is approaching its conclusion, and all sanctioned works under this phase must be finalized promptly before the commencement of the new phase. The meeting revealed that a total of 323,299 houses have been completed, with work ongoing on the remaining 11,340 houses.
Asad has directed assistant commissioners of development (ACDs) and block development officers (BDOs) to monitor each case closely and ensure that no sanctioned house is left unfinished. He also emphasized the need to address any technical or administrative obstacles that may be impeding progress without delay.
The secretary stated that all outstanding works must be finalized by April 15, urging officers to exert every possible effort, even if it necessitates working around the clock, as houses that remain incomplete from the previous phase will not be addressed once the new phase is initiated.
Additionally, he instructed the directors of rural development in the Jammu and Kashmir region to conduct weekly review meetings and keep the department updated on the progress made. He underscored the importance of the timely release of pending installments to beneficiaries, directing ACDs to perform block-wise reviews in this context.
Highlighting the recent survey conducted prior to the launch of the new phase, he mentioned that although it was executed using AI-based technology, deputy commissioners will still review the findings to ensure that no eligible households are overlooked.
