The Greater Chennai Corporation(GCC) on Saturday held 200 camps to help people pay property tax and said similar camps will be held on Sunday too.
According to a statement, this is to enable people to pay the taxes before April 15 to get the 5% discount which the corporation gives.
In the first financial year last year, 1,99,589 people paid property tax before April 15, while in the second financial year, 2,19,217 people paid before the first 15 days.
This year, as of April 6, 2,56,662 people have paid property tax. The civic body has appointed its tax collectors and revenue officials at the camps to help people to pay the tax through UPI, online banking, or credit or debit cards.
The camps are held from 10 am to 2pm, and people can access the details at the city corporation’s website.
The corporation has urged maximum people to come and pay the taxes before April 15.
