Ganga Expressway set to open next month in Uttar Pradesh

India’s longest Ganga Expressway, which stretches 594 km across Uttar Pradesh, is scheduled to open next month, enhancing east-west connectivity within the state.

The expressway, being constructed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), aims to improve travel efficiency among 12 districts, including Meerut, Prayagraj, and Rae Bareli.

A notable aspect of the project is the FASTag-enabled toll system, which has successfully completed trial runs in districts such as Badaun, facilitating smooth, contactless toll collection and minimizing traffic congestion. “This project will offer improved accessibility and quicker travel for passengers,” stated UPEIDA officials.

Furthermore, the expressway features comprehensive infrastructure, including 140 water bodies, seven road overbridges, 28 flyovers, and 946 culverts, all designed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.

The project also incorporates advanced AI-assisted monitoring technology, developed in partnership with ETH Zurich University, which allows for real-time evaluations of road quality and comfort during the construction phase. This technology is set to be utilized in future projects, including the Gorakhpur Link Expressway.
