Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari’s verbal assurance on Monday for the construction of the much-needed flyover at Nanthoor has given new hope to the public about its implementation.
Nanthoor, a major circle on the intersection of 3 major highways — NH66, NH75, and NH169– is a bane for commuters due to the long traffic queues, especially during peak hours.
After much public outcry, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had prepared a proposal for constructing an underpass for easing traffic congestion, several years ago. Later the proposal was revised and a flyover was proposed to be constructed instead.
Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for a flyover at the KPT junction on NH66 during his visit to the city. Once this Rs 340 crore project is complete, the congestion at this important junction that gives access to the airport is expected to ease up.
