Telangana Government has now come up with another new scheme to help people construct their houses in their own lands.
The Government would now be extending a financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh per house, Finance Minister T Harish Rao announced during his budget speech in the Assembly on Monday. This financial assistance is in addition to the double bedroom houses being allocated to the poor for free of cost under Dignity Housing to the poor – 2 BHK scheme.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao took this decision in view of the appeals made by several elected representatives asking for financial assistance to plot owners for constructing houses. This would a two-bedroom housing scheme for those people who own plots. Under this scheme, Government would benefit four lakh beneficiaries who will receive Rs 3 lakh each assistance to construct houses. Three thousand houses will be constructed in each assembly segment in this scheme in the next financial year. Accordingly, 3.57 lakh houses will be constructed in all the assembly segments.
In addition to these, 43,000 houses would be made available for allocation by the Chief Minister under special circumstances, including displacement of people and those affected by natural calamities.
The 2 BHK scheme was a role model for rest of the country and no other State was taking up such a scheme. In the budget, Rs.12, 000 crore is proposed for the 2 BHK programme, the Finance Minister said in his budget speech. Under the two BHK housing programme, so far the government has sanctioned 2.91 lakh houses. Of these, 1.70 lakh houses were completed and the balance houses were at different stages of construction, he said.
