The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways announced on Wednesday the introduction of a FASTag-based Annual Pass designed to facilitate seamless highway travel. In a statement made on X, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari indicated that the pass will be available for a fee of Rs 3,000 for a duration of one year, starting from August 15, 2025.
This new FASTag pass will be applicable to non-commercial private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans, and will remain valid for one year from the activation date or until 200 trips are completed, whichever occurs first. The initiative aims to alleviate toll-related issues, particularly for commuters residing within a 60-kilometre radius of toll plazas.
The Annual Pass will be accessible via the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). A specific link for activation and renewal will be made available prior to the launch.
As stated by Gadkari, this innovative system aims to streamline toll payments by enabling users to complete a single, upfront payment for the entire year. Additionally, the policy responds to longstanding public concerns regarding frequent toll deductions during short-distance travel. By standardizing access and eliminating the necessity for repeated toll payments, the government anticipates that the Annual Pass will alleviate congestion, minimize disputes at toll plazas, and facilitate quicker movement for private vehicles throughout the highway network. This initiative is part of a larger effort to digitize and modernize road infrastructure services while improving user convenience across the national highway grid.
