Ester Industries, a prominent manufacturer of polyester films and specialty polymers, in collaboration with Loop Industries—Ester Loop Infinite Technologies (ELITe)—has acquired land near Surat, Gujarat, to set up India’s inaugural Infinite Loop manufacturing facility.
The Seller Group has consented to transfer the designated parcels of land for the initiative, estimated at approximately Rs 1,600 crore, facilitating the establishment of a greenfield chemical recycling plant. Strategically positioned within the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR), the location offers access to a significant amount of polyester textile waste, a proficient petrochemical workforce, and logistical benefits such as closeness to a deep-water seaport.
The proposed facility will convert polyester textile waste into virgin-quality polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin, promoting circular economy objectives in the polyester sector. With an initial annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes, which can be expanded by an additional 100,000 tonnes, the plant aims to achieve up to 80 percent reductions in carbon emissions compared to traditional PET.
Designed to function on nearly 80 percent renewable electricity and biofuels, it signifies a significant advancement in sustainable plastics manufacturing.
