Bengaluru is set to undergo a significant infrastructure enhancement with the planned introduction of a new loop at the Hebbal flyover, in addition to a distinct 1.5-km tunnel road that will link Esteem Mall to the Veterinary College. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar has stated that the purpose of the tunnel is to alleviate ongoing traffic congestion at the Hebbal junction, which serves as a crucial transit hub for commuters from North Bengaluru traveling towards the city center.
This new tunnel is distinct from the extensive 16.75-km Hebbal-Silk Board tunnel road—one of the longest urban tunnel initiatives in India—that is currently being constructed by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (B-SMILE).
The shorter 1.5-km project will be carried out independently by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), encompassing areas such as Nagawara, Esteem Mall, and the Agricultural University.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao indicated that the proposal will soon be presented to the State Cabinet. Discussions are also underway regarding the integration of the tunnel with the larger Hebbal–Silk Board corridor to enhance connectivity and project coherence.
