As part of the first phase, 11,700 2BHK housing units were allotted to beneficiaries in the city on Saturday. Ahead of the polls, recipients were chosen from all constituencies in GHMC.
A total of 7 lakh pleas have been received for 2BHK houses from the GHMC limits since the state government announced the double-bed room housing scheme. At the time of draws of lots online, 500 beneficiaries were chosen from each assembly constituency.
MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao was supposed to inaugurate the housing scheme at Quthbullapur and hand over keys to 1,700 beneficiaries, but could not attend as he was abroad. On his behalf, minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav along with MLAs of Quthbullapur and Kukatpally, attended the inauguration.
Talasani said the process has been a transparent one following a draw of lots. He assured those who could not get allotments in the first phase not to panic and said all eligible persons would get houses.
Health minister, Harish Rao distributed 2BHK housing certificates to 3,500 beneficiaries in Kollur at Patancheru constituency. In Secunderabad Cantonment, the daughter of late MLA G Sayanna, Lasya Nandita attended the launch at Bahadurpally.
GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durishetty and GHMC commissioner D Ronald Rose participated in the programme in the city. Several other ministers who also handed over keys to beneficiaries referred to various welfare schemes being implemented by the Telangana government. Each housing unit costs between ₹50 and ₹60 lakh.
