AAI approves underpass for elevated corridor in Hyderabad

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has granted approval for a 600-meter, six-lane underpass beneath Begumpet Airport, which is part of the proposed elevated corridor project. This significant advancement was confirmed by an official from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

The underpass is a crucial element of the 5.4-kilometer elevated corridor that extends from Paradise Junction to Military Dairy Farm Road, traversing Secunderabad, Tadbund, and Bowenpally. Its purpose is to alleviate space limitations, as constructing the structure near the airport runway is impractical, and to circumvent a sharp turn in Tadbund.

With this approval, a significant obstacle for the project has been overcome. The construction will necessitate the acquisition of land from 42 acres of defense land and 13 acres of private land. The HMDA is concurrently working on two additional elevated corridors—Paradise Junction-Shamirpet and Paradise Junction-Dairy Farm Road.

The overall project, which has a total budget of Rs 5,106 crore, is financed by the New Development Bank, with the state government responsible for covering the remaining expenses. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity in the area and is anticipated to strengthen infrastructure in Hyderabad.
