RMC collects record ₹39 crore property tax in Q1 FY26

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) achieved a remarkable collection of Rs 39.33 crore in property tax during the first quarter (April to June) of the 2025–26 financial year, marking its highest-ever collection for this period.

This amount was sourced from 81,320 taxpayers, as per official statistics. The increase in collections has been attributed by the civic body to several factors, including a tiered rebate system, enhanced digital adoption, expanded door-to-door collection efforts, and the establishment of payment facilitation centres. A 10% rebate on lump-sum payments was available until June 30, while earlier slabs in April and May provided rebates of 3%, 5%, and 7%.

Out of the total collection, Rs 20.27 crore was gathered through door-to-door initiatives from over 53,500 taxpayers. Digital transactions contributed Rs 12.52 crore from nearly 23,000 payers, while Rs 1.94 crore was collected at the RMC’s assistance centres. Deputy municipal commissioner Gautam Prasad remarked that these figures indicate improved participation, particularly from taxpayers who had previously postponed their payments. “Our goal was to enhance accessibility, whether through online platforms, ward-level camps, or doorstep collection.

We are also witnessing the outcomes of targeted outreach in wards that had low compliance in the past,” he stated. Additionally, the civic body is prioritizing the clearance of arrears. He mentioned that RMC would assess large outstanding dues and contemplate stricter enforcement measures if necessary. In contrast, the first quarter of 2024–25 recorded Rs 32.93 crore from 76,527 taxpayers, while Rs 27.04 crore was collected in 2023–24 from 72,435 taxpayers. The figure for 2022–23 was Rs 21.90 crore.
