LMC allocates ₹500 crore for infrastructure and smart city development

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has designated over ₹500 crores for the enhancement of infrastructure, the improvement of air quality, and the implementation of smart city projects. This funding was received through the 15th finance commission, the smart city mission, and the infrastructure fund, and it encompasses proposals from the Chief Minister’s prominent urban renewal initiatives.

The allocation decision for various development projects within the city was made on Wednesday during a standing committee meeting led by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal at the Smart City office. Approximately ₹64.50 crore has been earmarked for air quality enhancement in the city. Of this amount, ₹35.45 crore is allocated for the repair of damaged roads and the installation of interlocking tiles, while ₹7 crore is designated for the deployment of anti-smog guns and the establishment of construction and demolition (C&D) waste collection centers.

In addition, ₹1 crore has been allocated for the installation of fountains at key intersections, while ₹11.05 crore has been designated for the enhancement of parks and the establishment of an urban forest. An additional ₹9 crore will be utilized for geofencing areas free from encroachment to enable effective monitoring. Furthermore, ₹173 crore has been set aside for solid waste management, which will support the disposal of fresh waste at the Shivri waste plant, the construction of transfer stations, the enhancement of drinking water systems, and the acquisition of advanced waste-handling equipment. A total of 25 projects have been approved in this category, with a commitment to ensure timely and high-quality implementation.

Over ₹160 crore from the infrastructure fund will support 17 significant projects, including the cleaning of the Kathauta and Bharwara lakes, road and drain repairs, the installation of new drainage systems, the beautification of traffic intersections, the development of the Kalyan Mandap, street lighting and electrification initiatives, the establishment of flood pumping stations, vending zones, and the creation of sports facilities beneath flyovers. Instructions have also been issued regarding the third phase of the Chief Minister’s grid scheme, mandating that newly proposed roads be integrated with those developed in previous phases.

A new survey of proposed routes will be conducted, and officials have been instructed to provide regular progress updates. Additionally, a proposal amounting to ₹103.50 crore under the Mukhyamantri Aishvik Nagarodaya Yojana will soon be presented to the state government, which includes the construction of a multi-purpose complex on Ayodhya Road, the redevelopment of city intersections, traffic management solutions, the establishment of a new zonal office (zone-seven), the development of an urban forest, a children’s home, smart parking facilities, and a multi-purpose sports stadium.

Municipal officials have been directed to ensure that all city drains are cleaned by June 26 to avoid waterlogging during the monsoon. Any lapses will invite disciplinary action. All flood pumping stations will also be inspected and made operational ahead of the rainy season.

The meeting was attended by municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar, additional commissioner Lalit Kumar, Pankaj Srivastava, Arun Kumar Gupta, Arvind Kumar Rao, GM, Jal Kal, Kuldeep Singh, chief engineer (civil) Mahesh Verma, chief engineer (RR) Manoj Kumar Prabhat, with executive engineers and other officials.
