AP Govt cancels TDR worth ₹208 crore in Visakhapatnam

The government of Andhra Pradesh has annulled the contentious transferable development rights (TDR) worth 208 crore in Revallapalem, Visakhapatnam. These TDRs were reportedly issued unlawfully for land designated for the construction of an 80-foot road connecting Madhurawada to Revallapalem via Navodaya school.

Jana Sena corporator P Murthy Yadav stated that he had filed a complaint regarding this issue with the state municipal administration and urban development minister, P Narayana, during the minister’s recent visit to Vizag. “I express my gratitude to the minister for his swift response and for revoking the TDR,” remarked Murthy Yadav.

According to a government memorandum issued on June 5, it was initially mandated that TDRs be considered and granted to property owners for the establishment and development of the 80-foot-wide master plan road, specifically Bakkannapalem road. However, in light of negative media coverage regarding the issuance of TDRs, the GVMC commissioner was asked to reassess the situation concerning various factors, including ownership, TDR valuation, and the extent of land impacted.

Additionally, the director of town and country planning, Mangalagiri, reported that despite multiple directives, the GVMC had yet to undertake the required actions. Meanwhile, negative news reports continue to emerge, highlighting concerns related to government land involvement and inconsistencies in the ground report submitted by GVMC, among other matters. As a result, the state government has instructed the GVMC commissioner to revoke the previously issued TDR and to commence a new review by presenting the issue to the TDR committee.
